Jennifer worked for Ministry Health Care for over 10 years. She started out as a Service Technician, then later as a Project Management Office (PMO) Support Specialist. Although her passion was not in the IT field, Jennifer was happy and secure in her position. In October 2015, Jennifer received word that her position would be eliminated. This meant she would be permanently laid-off. The sudden shock of losing her job was unexpected and frightening. Jennifer knew that finding comparable employment would be difficult. She realized she would need to “upskill” in order to find another job with a comparable wage.

The following month, Jennifer attended one of LETC’s Resource Meetings at the Wisconsin Rapids Job Center. She then met John Peters and enrolled in the Dislocated Worker Program. Jennifer worked with John to complete the required career assessments. She chose to combine her experience in healthcare customer service and her passion for fitness to pursue a degree in Health & Wellness Management from UW-Stevens Point. Life was suddenly looking up for Jennifer. She had a dream of completing her Bachelor’s Degree, and she was working toward incorporating her passion into a dream career. Jennifer worked part-time as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer.

Jennifer graduated with honors from UW-Stevens Point in May 2018. Her cumulative grade point average was 4.0! In August 2018, Jennifer started a new job at Aspirus as a Health Promotion & Wellness Specialist. In Jennifer’s own words,

“Our careers are such a big part of who we are and how we define ourselves. Having your position eliminated can be a very stressful life event to you and your entire family. Thankfully, this program was there for me, when I needed help the most. I have always wanted to go back to school – this life event and the help of Workforce Development allowed me to crush the barriers and succeed at obtaining my degree and a new career in Health and Wellness. This career change has been exciting, humanizing, uplifting, and extremely educational. My goal is to improve the lives of individuals and their communities by focusing on the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental aspects of health and wellness. I am excited for the future and look forward to helping others to live their lives to the fullest potential.
“I am so grateful for my amazing case worker, John Peters. John is truly a book of knowledge and he was very supportive and helpful throughout the entire process. I always knew that I could count on John to answer any questions that I would have – he is very responsive and great to work with.”

Congratulations Jennifer!
