Kent Olson Named to New Council on Workforce Investment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 8, 2013 – NCWWDB Board Chairman Kent Olson named to Governor’s new Council on Workforce Investment Panel

Kent OlsonWausau, WI – Governor Walker has named the new membership of the Council on Workforce Investment, a federally mandated panel that will advise Walker and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development on a comprehensive workforce development strategy and the allocation of federal workforce development funds.

Appointed by the governor to the new Council on Workforce Investment panel is the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board’s (NCWWDB) Chairman, Kent Olson.

The new council will be responsible for approving the Workforce Investment Act plan and will coordinate the efforts of Wisconsin’s 11 regional workforce investment boards. Council members will provide valuable input with its representation coming from business, education, legislative and other key groups. A focus on job creation and addressing the skills gap will guide the work of the council.

Olson, owner and president of Olson’s Tire and Auto Service in Wausau, has served on NCWWDB’s Board for 13 years, serving the last three years as its chairman. Olson’s list of community involvements include his work with the Wausau School District’s Youth Apprenticeship Automotive Technician program; co-founder and current co-chair for the Wisconsin Automotive and Truck Education Association(WATEA); a previous appointment serving on Governor Doyle’s Council on Workforce Investment; and serving on the State of Wisconsin Governor’s Work Based Learning Board Curriculum Review Committee.

He displays an extraordinary personal commitment to workforce issues in North Central Wisconsin,” said Rene Daniels, NCWWDB’s executive director. “Kent’s talent and experience will prove valuable to the work of the new statewide council.”

Reggie Newson, secretary of the DWD, will serve as the council’s executive director. Other panel members in the region include Senator Tom Tiffany, Wisconsin State Senate, 12th District and Senator Julie Lassa, Wisconsin State Senate, 24th District.
